Not quite but was diagnosed Type 2 in July. Not on medication but control from weight loss and diet. Hb1AC of 7.5% and cholesterol of 6.5 on diagnosis and determined to get it under control. Weight loss to date is 3 1/2 stones through low carb diet and exercise. Now very fit through swimming and running. Real kick up the back-side for me on diagnosis to change lifestyle but felt very guilty for letting myself go. Having said that I feel really well and friends say I look younger!

All other tests are fine such as kidney, diabetic retinography, ciruclation etc. Just hope that this effort has done the trick and can get the Hb1AC below 7% at next blood test in early December. Really want to avoid medication for a while if at all possible but not sure how hard it is to reduce the Hb1AC. Anyway, I'm glad to have joined you all!

Hi Dolly68, welcome to the forum 🙂 You sound as though you have really turned things around - well done on all you have achieved! I would imagine that, with such an impressive weight loss, dietary changes and exercise, you will certainly get a reduction in your numbers. Do you test your blood sugars to give you an idea of how things are progressing?

If there is anything we can help with, please let us know. It sounds like you will be able to offer much-needed motivation to others with the success you have had 🙂

Welcome to the forums Dolly 🙂

Hello Dolly, well done on your progress, and welcome to the forum.🙂

Hi Dolly, welcome to the forum; I was diagnosed in August and like yourself am working hard to reduce my HbA1c of 7.2 and cholesterol of 4.8. Have my second HbA1c in December - be good to compare numbers.

Well done with the weight loss; I've just taken up swimming lessons....😱

Thanks everyone for their welcome.

Hi Amanda - I go swimming every Monday and I feel more tired than when I go for a 3 mile run so it must be good for you!! We should definitely compare numbers. How are you getting on with the diet side of things?
