Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I have struggled for 18 months to get my blood sugar levels down, the 10 years up till then I was a star. Now i have done a month of the blood sugar diet but my levels have not really lowered -being really unwell the last three weeks has not helped. I have been told today that the underlying cause could be the diabetes and blood sugar affecting my well-being. I will be changed from metformin, liraglutide and forxiga to metformin and insulin in a few weeks once I get my head round it and have had a chance to research it.
Comments in the type 2 and insulin forums have been helpful. Is there anything else any experienced D's can supply or additional places to look these would be gratefully received.

Hey Annie - you'll be far better on insulin, once you get going on it. It's a far gentler and more natural (though the vast bulk of insulins used today are far from 'natural' LOL) way of lowering BG - and if your pancreas has got to the stage where it just can't keep up - then so be it. Nowt much you can do about that once it's at that stage.

You do have to test more and of course it's very daunting to begin with, starting on insulin, for all of us - but it all settles down and becomes a habit, in time. And it's worth it anyway cos you'll feel a LOT better!

If you were to perhaps look at the advice for newly diagnosed Type 1s available wherever, this is likely to cover probs with doing jabs etc, more than T2 advice? Once we all know just which insulin(s) they are putting you on, of course we can try and give you some more specific help.

Good luck!

Hi Annie , welcome. I have T2 and after many years am now on insulin. I know it must seem daunting to you atm, Don't worry you won't be let loose with injecting with what I fondly call my go juice, without enough info and practice to get you started, Nor do we have ruddy great syringes and needles, teeny 4mm real slender jobbies are all that's needed, honestly you'll laugh when you see them and a gadget that a looks a bit like a pen is all 🙂
Please don't be afraid of insulin, all people who have T1 are alive today because of it. Us with T2 may eventually need it.
Once your BG levels come down you will start to feel so much better in yourself, now that's something to look forward to isn't it 🙂.
once you know what type of insulin your going onto, we I'll be able to help a lot more.
Dont be afraid to ask us questions either.

Thank you for the words of encouragement trophywench, Ljc and grovesy x if it makes me feel better than its all good x

Hi Annie (from another one 😉), welcome to the forum. I'm not on insulin so can't comment on that, but you'll get lots of support and encouragement here 🙂

Hi. Can I ask what sort of diet you have? If you have much excess weight then insulin may not have much effect as your body may already have too much insulin thru insulin resistance? I'm guessing the possibility of excess weight as you mention Liraglutide. Do get the carbs way down if you can if are not already low-carbing

DaveB I have some more weight to lose but have lost over 30kg already. I have recently been closely following the low blood sugar diet and doing numerous blood tests during the day but my blood sugar levels are not significantly falling.

Hi again. Well done on getting the weight down by 30kg - that's an amazing reduction. I would continue with the low-carb or similar diet and hopefully the weight reduction will continue. The insulin if still needed should then be much more effective thru lower insulin resistance.
