hi, has anybody experienced hypers (<27) with insulin and type 2. I have just started on Humulin Insulin approx. 3 weeks ago on 22 units at the moment but experiencing high glucose in late afternoon and evening. My fastening glucose level is about 10 at the moment. If possible would like your views on taking Humulin Insulin?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Which Humulin insulin is it? It should have a letter after it possibly a green "i" and do you just inject it once a day and if so, when?

Have you adjusted your diet at all? If it is Humulin I then it is basically there to del with the glucose your liver trickles out throughout the day and night, so any food you eat and particularly carbohydrates will push your levels up and up as the day goes on.
Humulin I is usually injected twice a day, morning and evening so if you are just injecting once a day it may well be running out before your next injection and that could be another reason for your levels going high in the afternoon/evening, if you inject it at night.

I don't have any experience of Humulin I myself but it is likely what I will be moving onto (by choice) when my current basal insulin is discontinued next year.

Which kind of humilin insulin? Does it say anything else on the pen?

hi, yes it is Humulin with the green "I". With my diet i have just started a low Carb. Thanks for your views on taking the insulin twice a day, it may be something i take up with my diabetes professionals. Many thanks.

When they start you on insulin, they usually start you on pretty conservative doses and gradually increase it if need be over the following weeks until it keeps you mostly in range, so it sounds like your dose needs some tweaking and probably splitting.
Good to hear that you are starting low carb as it can be very effective. What sort of level of carbs are you aiming for per day?. Do you need any suggestions for low carb meal ideas?

yes, i have been diagnosed for at least 15 years with type 2 after what you have said it makes me dubious about my type of diabetes!

I haven’t said anything about your type of diabetes. If you’ve had diabetes for 15 years but only been on insulin for 3 weeks then extremely likely you’re type 2

@Lucyr I am guessing Andrew was reading your profile "signature" as being part of your post directed to him.

You can’t be T1 and go 15 years without insulin surely though

It's unlikely but diabetes can be surprisingly individual. I would say it would definitely qualify as LADA if that was the case because it would be the slowest onset ever!

When are you next due a catch-up with your Dr or nurse @Andrew1964 ?

Hopefully they’ll gradually tweak your Humulin I doses to better match your needs.
