Type 2
Hi All,
A long time since I posted.
I am a type 2 with NAFLD approx 8 years Age 62 don’t do alcohol or cigarettes.
I take Metformin 2 x 1000ml and inject at night 30ml Abasagar I take meds’ for blood pressure too for over 20 years.
The covid has left me self sufficient for over 10 months. My sugars averaging 9.0 (aim is 6 to 12). Last week I attended my diabetic review approx 12 months since last one.
Today received a surgery call were the receptionist informed me there were some concerns, no details just said I needed to do set of bloods arrange for March said it was about my FLT’s, Iron, and Vit D.
They have also asked me to re do my urine sample in 2 weeks. I have noticed an odour in my urine in the last few weeks I call it yeasty but I have read that some call it fruity?
I caught corona virus early November was quite poorly and had medication for the ongoing cough. Loss of appetite so had to monitor closely.
I can’t provide any results as not been given them.
How worried do I need to be and can I do anything to help myself before my next blood test.
Very much appreciate any advice.

Hi there Joan P
Sorry to hear your in a mini meltdown
I’m sure with the right advice you will soon get a better control
to throw In my tuppence worth, levels of 9 are really quite high (although a year ago I wouldn’t have thought that myself) back then I had a Hba1c of over 100 !@ end of 2019
like you I take 200mg of Metformin plus Insulin (but a different one than yours)

well done in getting a actual review
I’ve seen my levels improve by curing out all sweet & junk foods cutting down on the carbs, no white bread, potatoes, white rice or pasta ..etc
I’m eating tinned fish (a couple of times a week)
I wasn’t testing before (well maybe a few tests each week)
now I’m testing 4/6 times a day (and my fingers know it) I’ve been quite surprised at some of the foods that put my BS levels up!

I appreciate you’ve had COVID (possibly that hasn’t helped)

Thank you so much for the support.
I have realised over the last couple of days that I am not drinking enough fluids and this explains the yeasty smell and dark urine.
I get very engrossed in my work and don’t drink.
I’ve also gone cold turkey on the carbs and sweet stuff.
I have increased my testing too and yes my fingers are paying the price
While the 9 appears high, for me before the night injections I was as high as 20 just taking Metformin. Then I was given a new nurse as she has got me to we’re I am today.
I am now monitoring my night insulin to ensure I don’t go too low.
Thanks so much for the feedback support. Joan

hey by the way @Joan P
I was going to ask what is NAFLD ?

NALFD is Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Yes think it hereditary from my mum. I’ve not drunk alcohol for over 20 years always feel I need to explain that ha!Ha!

Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease - hereditary I think don’t drink they check on some sort of scale specialist at hospital.
I’ve had a poor lifestyle since childhood. My issues BP 20years type 2 picked up about 8 to 10 years the liver issue about 5 years.
As well as my unhealthy relationship with sugary foods and my lack of exercise never been a fan. I weigh about 9st 10lbs I’m thick around the middle apple shape.

AHA @Joan P

the mystery is solved N.A.F.L.D
now you explained the acronym,
I know somebody who suffers with it,

he developed it as a result of medication he has to take for another of his conditions

Nice to see you posting again @Joan P, bur sorry to read about what has promoted your return.

Good to know they are keeping an eye on things for you though.

Keep well hydrated, and well done for upping your BG monitoring, cutting back on carbs and seeing improvements in your levels. I wonder if the urine aroma might be a slight infection?

Hope the checks they are running come back fine, and give you reassurance.

Let us know what they say about your results once you’ve had your follow up from the bloods.
