Hi Guys, need your advice again.🙂

My IR seemed to be getting less, in that I was no longer getting such a large rise in the first hour when eating a small amount of carbs .

I tested it this morning by just eating a piece of Bergen with a little spread to see what happened at breakfast.

My pre was5.5, after breakfast, 1 hr 7.4(really pleased, dont need an egg now) but 2 hours was 3.8. Oops, not keen on that and the usual large drop as well.

I had a 3.8 last week, but put it down to meter tolerence, but now it looks as though it may be a fact.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Slipper, technically 3.8 is not a hypo when you are not on any medication for your diabetes as non-diabetics can also get levels like this, and sometimes down into the low to mid-3s. However, 4.0 is considered the bottom line for people on medications that could cause them to drop dangerously low, so people on insulin for example are told to treat anything even slightly below this.

For you to be achieving such levels is excellent news! Did you get any symptoms of low blood sugar, like shaking or sweating? If so, then a little sugar (a sweet, perhaps) should raise your levels suffciently to overcome them. Might be worth booking and appointment with your doctor so you can discuss your progress and concerns 🙂

Thanks Northerner, thats a bit of a relief. I booked my DN, but 4 week wait.
Seeing my Dr in 3 weeks, but I am seeing my Podiatrist next week, he may know.:D

In was concerned, as didn't know what was happening and thought I may have overdone the low carbs, which BTW, I have upped thanks to pitta bread, but it does seem as though I can take the carbs a bit better now which I was so pleased about.

So panick over, thanks. 🙂

EDIT, re symptoms, no, but to be honest I get so many from my other problem its difficult to tell. I often feel a bit shakey and dizzy, etc.

It must be a morning thing. I'm regularly in the low 4's 2hrs after breakfast (which usually consists of porridge with nutmeg, honey and banana!). My last reading was 4.1mmol/L.

Sounds like you're on the right track then! Well done!!

Andy 🙂

The only thing I would be worried about Slipper is if you decide to have this as a regular breakfast. There is not enough balance in what you are eating to be a healthy "meal". If you had added other food groups then I am sure the result after 2hrs. would not have been so drastic.

Thanks Andy, yes, both my 3.8's were a couple of hours after breakfast.

It really is a shifting sands situation for the first months, but getting a little more settled about it now, except for the odd panick.

I hope you guys realise just what an exceptional forum this is, I went on another one and no one even said hello, let alone helped and reassured like you guys do. Ok, wont suck up anymore:D, but thanks again.

Ah, thats what causes the big drop is it Cherriepie, thanks for that. I was eating an egg each day but have a cholesterol problem too so trying to cut down, but yes, wont make that a just carb breakfast again, it was just a test.
