Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Good evening. I was diagnosed about 16 years ago. I have tried various meds but now im on Exenatide, Met, Glic and been on Lantus for just over a week. This may sound strange but for years ive denied I am diabetic, only now im actually taking it seriously. I had huge ovarian cysts when i wasn 17, 22 years ago which left me with a large tummy. My legs and arms are fairly slim, its just my tummy and yes I have had the 'when is the baby due' comment. My diabetes is obviously a result of this. Im 40 in 6 months so its a bit of a milestone. As I have started on insulin ive been checking my bsugars regularly and they hack me off as they are so high 11s, 12s, 13s etc. I have decided to start taking this serious. I have a question for you. I was always told to have carbs at every meal but the other day i had mackerel salad for lunch, no carbs and my sugars were 7.2 before tea. I couldnt understand it. Can someone explain this? Also, how much carbs are you supposed to eat at each meal? All help gratefully appreciated x

Welcome to the forum sharon11 🙂

Since all carbs turn into blood glucose, I think the advice to have carbs with every meal is a little misplaced. There are certainly many who are able to cut back without any issues. The only minimum figure I've seen was about 40g/Carb per day. But please don't quote me on that 😉

The Gretchen Becker book listed in the newbies useful links thread is very useful!
