Hi everyone, I’ve been diagnosed around 6 years ago and since then my sugar tests have crept up to 67 mmol. So much so that I kept off going for my diabetes review test for nearly 2 years as it got me severely depressed and the fear that another test would show that it’s crept up even more. Yes, I know, burying your head in the sand isn’t the answer. I am 5ft 6in and was 78kg and of make Indian origin and in turned 50. I tried everything that I thought was right in terms of food intake. Bit the best advice my nurse gave me was, if I want to improve my results then lose weight- simple. It was the best advice that she gave me. I started walking for 45 mins 3 times a week. I helped me to burn around 200 calories according to my iPhone. Use stairs instead of lifts. Remove bread, chapattis, meat, rice potatoes from my diet(carbs). Introduce smoothies and juice(which has natural sugars instead). Spinach, kale, kiwi, half apple, blue berries smoothies. Eat once a day only but reduce your portion and smoothies for evenings. I’d reduce my weight now to 71.4kg and I’ve just got my sugar result down to 52 mmol. The point I’m making is that lifestyle change is subjective and whilst I thought I had changed my diet initially, I didn’t make drastic enough changes for my body to benefit. It took me a long time to condition my mind and then my body to go from high carb to fruit and bed diet. Boiler and sautéed Brussels sprouts. Broccoli, carrots, etc it’s so healthy and so easy on the body to digest. I have cheat days and do treat myself if I get a craving but the portions are small otherwise my tummy feels bloated now. I still can’t forget the second thing my nurse said when she took my blood,’ if you’ve lost nearly 7kg the I’ll bet my mortgage that your readings will be lower’, and it was. Make drastic changes to your diet and lose weight. If you want to get in control of your sugar levels. My target weight is 68 kg and I need to get my sugar to 48 mmol but it’s getting harder. I’m a plumber by trade but when Obmann y off days I’m not too active. So I think I need to start a keto diet.
