Type 2
Hi Everyone. My name is Brian and I,ve had type 2 for about 20 years. Over this time my control has not been great but in the last year I have taken it more seriously and have brought my sugar levels down to normal levels, although I still are using my medications(pills, not insulin).
Unfortunately over the last three months I,ve developed neuropathy in my feet which is getting very painful at night and is ruining my sleep. My doctor has prescribed gabapentin initially which didn,t seem to be very effective so more recently he prescribed Prozac, which seems to have no effect at all, apart from making me feel dopey all day.
Can anyone advise on how to help here as the idea of having this condition for life with no effective treatment is scaring the life out of me. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Welcome.
Can you ask to reffered to a specialist.

Hi Brian, Welcome. I hope others will be along soon who know more about treating neuropathy pain. I do have neuropathy myself but luckily for me it's , fingers and everything else crossed , not too painful. I too think you need to see a specialist. I know of one old antidepressant that can help with some types of pain, however am unaware if Prozac does.

Hi Brian from a fellow T2 who's 2 years in.

Hi Brian
Warm welcome to the forum.

Hello Brian and welcome 🙂

There are a few other drugs that can be prescribed for diabetic neuropathy so it would be worth asking to try something else. Duloxetine and pregabalin are two that I know are used. I did try Alpha Lipoic acid tablets in desperation a year back but apart from helping Holland and Barrett to keep in business they did nothing for me. I hope you get some help from a neurologist for this horrible condition. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice. I,ll talk to the doctor.

Hello Brian, welcome to the forum. My sister is long time diabetic and is often hopping from foot to foot. :( She never complains though, she is stoic and brave. I certainly wouldn't be. She just takes Co-codamol occasionally.
