Type 2
Hi there everyone - I'm glad I found this website and I'm sure it is helpful to many. I have just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Does anyone know how I can keep track of my blood sugar levels myself so that I can adjust my diet and activities accordingly. Is there some sort of monitor you can buy?
Thank you in advance. Sefton

Hi Sefton, welcome to the forum 🙂 Ideally, your GP should prescribe some testing strips for you so that you can monitor the effects of different food on your blood glucose levels - was this mentioned at all when you were diagnosed? The strips are quite expensive, so many GPs are reluctant to prescribe them. If you need to buy them yourself, then the cheapest option we have come across here is the SD Codefree Meter with test strips at around £7 for 50. Many people find that, by testing themselves and showing their GP how it is helping them, the GP can be persuaded to prescribe some strips.

I would suggest reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker to give you a good understanding of what it all entails. Also, Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S will give you a good guide to efficient testing. 🙂

Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have and we will try our best to help you out! 🙂

Hi Sefton and welcome. 🙂

Welcome to the forum Sefton 🙂

Thank you

Thank you very much for the warm welcome to the 'club'. Really appreciated
that. Thank you to Northerner for the advice. I shall look into all the things you have told me, and maybe report back.
Have a good evening.
