Hi
I was diagnosed type 2 mid September and was not very surprised, I had an inkling and the original diagnosis was met with a practical attitude. Three weeks later i met the diabetic nurse for my consultation. This is when it really hit home the nature of diabetes. My medication was increased and talk about complications and risks, blood glucose monitoring every day. Then to be told she did not have an appropriate amount of time for me due to being busy. Which I can understand but this was my first consultation and I to be honest was now quite shocked at how naive I had been. I don't take any medication ever unless I am on my knees so be on three tablets a day and talk of additional statins was overload. ( They didn't give me the statins Yeh) Then I went to work and carried on as normal. I wasn't normal inside . I was and still am very scared.
I was unwell this week end and that really scared me because I felt very alone and vulnerable. I did not have any one to ask for advice or help. Hence why I am here for moral support.
I keep up a brave face and on the whole I am ok with it. My levels are down and I eat as I am supposed to. Which I did anyway. I'm not over weight. Could do with more exercise but I work full time and tired when I get in. Poor excuse i know. I have looked at local support groups in my area but they are held during the day. Which is of no use to me.
I do feel low at times and it comes over in waves. I'm sure this a normal reaction. So i try to keep positive and carry on. I'm waiting to do the DESMOND day at the end of November. That may give me more insight and help.

Thanks for listening.

Hi and welcomed to the forum. It can be very daunting at first and there is a lot to learn, but you will get there. I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago and I still get days when it gets me down, we wouldn't be human if it didn't. This forum is a great place for help and advice.

Tell us a bit more about what level you were at, what medication you are on and what sort of diet you are following (if any) and what recommendations the diabetic nurse gave.

Hello bfishes and welcome to the forum. 🙂 It's unbelievable at first, but I'm sure you'll soon get a handle on it. This place will help muchly.
