Type 2
I have terrible problems with my diabetes over the year or so, in January this my Diabetic nurse reccomended that I should go to the Diabetes clinic at my local hospital and she said "She would make a referral " whick she did and I got my Appointment for the 23rd of march which was my 55th Birthday. I saw a consaultant and he said that I should be put on insulin and that I was to see one of the nurses and she started me on 14 units of Humulin I once a day but that did 'nt seem to bring my blood glucose down after a month and a half I am know on 22 units in the morning and 26 units before bed which seems to be working and I am know feeling a lot better

Welcome to the forum, Philip Vincent. Glad that insulin is working well for you, presumably in addition to continuing with tablets? Insulin is always started gradually, as if your blood glucose levels drop too rapidly, you would experience "false hypos" - feeling hypoglycaemic when levels are lower than you've been used to, but still above acceptable level. Humalin I doesn't last the full 24 hours, hence it works best when you have 2 injections a day. Perhaps your nurse wanted you to get used to 1 injection per day before increasing to 2, while gradually building up daily dose.

There are a few T2s on tablets and insulin, myself included. If you have any questions ask away
