Hello, so I’m 27 and diagnosed just over a year ago with type 2 and to start off with with metformin my sugars were coming down. I suffer really badly with mental health to the point I haven’t left the house in 3 years now. But my bloods no matter what I eat are shooting up to 15+ the do come back down, but only overnight it takes them at least 6 hours to do so! I’m so worried about the long term effects this is having, plus I feel so drained everyday I literally had salmon and kale for lunch today shot upto. 13?! And then I ate chicken for tea but I’m currently sitting at 15.2, only had sugar free jelly and double cream? Like what is going off I’m so worried! It’s been like this for around 4 weeks now.

Hello! I know nothing about you so cannot comment as your diabetes may be lifestyle related, hereditary or WHY. I do wonder if maybe you are Type 1.5 . After being treated for Type II and getting nowhere with Metformin a friend was re-evaluated and re-diagnosed as Type 1.5. You also need help to get out as exercise is beneficial in all types of diabetes. Good luck!

Hi @Cait
well done for postings sign your ready to improve things to help

so obviously your using a libra, which can give you a good insight into how your body reacts to whatever your eating.. etc I’m guessing with some higher readings that’s why you will feel a lack of energy

are you just taking Metformin or are you on any other Meds
how’s your Hba1c (have you had one recently) also what’s your BMI, do you have weight to loose ?

I too would suspect you could be a slow onset Type 1 with those results, especially as you are only 27.
Did they initially test you for Type 1 when you were first diagnosed?

Can you describe to us how your initial diabetes diagnosis came about and what your HbA1c was at diagnosis? Things like.... were you symptomatic and if so, which symptoms? Or was it picked up via a routine blood test?

How long have you been following a low carb way of eating or is that sporadic?
I struggle with mental health issues so I understand that it can be challenging to be consistent, with anything in life, not just diet, but I do find sticking with a low carb diet helps my mental health as well as my diabetes and I have managed to get into a routine with it. Exercise also helps but I do still go in fits and starts with that depending on whether I can summon motivation and that will depend on my mental state.

If you can give us a bit more info about your diagnosis it may help us understand your situation a little better. Are you carrying much/any excess weight? I do sometimes wonder if Type 1 is overlooked if young people are overweight and an assumption of Type 2 is made.

Hello Barbara I’m definitely type 2 had all my antibodies checked. And metformin did work for around a year, I’m just so concerned now I’ve spoke to DN and she’s saying she’s not concerned. I was diagnosed at 102 and I’m now 56

Hey I do have weight to loose but just been diagnosed with pcos so that could be contributing to the fact I can’t lose weight I’m also house bound due to agoraphobia so I don’t do much exercise due to panic attacks and dizziness. I’m wanting to kick it in its butt now because I know diabetes is contributing to the way I feel.

Hi. You can be late onset T1 without any antibodies being present. Many people don't realise that viruses can cause Beta cell destruction with out any antibodies showing as in my case. A C-Peptide test will show if insulin levels are low. You may need to go onto insulin if a C-Peptide test shows low insulin. You may have to have the test done privately as many GPs don't understand any of this. I was lucky as my diabetes nurse referred me when I asked.

@Cait it sounds like you have a few challenges on your road to a better health, but good you’ve recently spoken to your DSN and if your Hba1c is down from 102 to 56, you’ve obviously been doing something right, although I like many of us have MH issues I can’t imagine how it must be if you can’t leave home due to agoraphobia
How long have you been using the Libra and are you self funding?
