The Australian Diabetes Council says there has been an alarming rise in the number of people developing diabetes in the New England region.
Since 2005, it says there has been a 30 per cent jump in people presenting with type 2 diabetes.
The Australian Diabetes Council conducted the survey during National Diabetes Week.
