Despite a high and soaring prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the U.S., the disease is not necessarily promptly detected, according to a diabetes expert who has vast experience as both a researcher and clinician.

What's more, both patients and physicians contribute to the lag in diagnosis, said Timothy Lyons, MD, who is presently Director of Research of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center in Oklahoma City, and who has served in numerous capacities at the American Diabetes Association.

That reminds me of Airplane - Give me Hamm on 5 and hold the Mayo, he he.

Seriously, this is another one where we should be screening people (as stated in the article). I was diagnosed when I moved to a new GP and they took bloods. My wife has just been diagnosed when they took bloods for suspected vitamin B12 deficiency with an HBA1c of 106😱 Luckily I took her bloods before she went for her glucose tolerance test. When she told the GP her fasting BG was 14.8 they decided it was T2 and didn't bother with the 450ml Lucosade😱😱
