Type 2 diabetes: how to manage and treat the condition well

This is quite baffling stuff. The research in 1955 proved that weight loss was key to good control of T2 in overweight patients. We have been told since then that losing just 10% of bodyweight can significantly improve control. Every newly dxed overweight T2 has been advised to lose weight as a first step since 1955. Taylor et al seem to have reinvented the wheel and claim it as a major new advance.

Why is it baffling?

It was known that weight loss can improve the condition, in particular surgery that causes rapid weight loss, but no one really knew why.

Direct and counterpoint were designed to demonstrate the 'twin cycle hypothesis'. (And did so with scans and measurements of first phase insulin response during the course of the study - has anyone done this before?)
