Hi all.

I thought it might be interesting to find out which carb containing foods people have found that they tolerate well and those foods which are a definite no no.
Everyone is different so some may tolerate whole grain toast say and some may not.

So what are your can eat and cant eat foods

Croissants and pastry are an absolute no even with insulin for me. Cake is absolutely fine though, must have the perfect fat to carb ratio or something.

Over the 20 months I've had a few 'treats'.
- potato doesn't seem to cause me any issue. (A few roasts or small portion of chips.)
- welsh cake
- Caffe Nero sausage roll (42g of carbs!)
- A Flatbread
- Bag of crisps
- Large chunks of bread
- Couple of large samosas
- Chinese stir fry with sauce (30+g of carbs)

What I have noticed from testing is I seem to peak at around 8 and then drop back to 4-7 after a while. The more carbs, the longer I see it stay at 7-8, but that seems to be a bit of a 'peak'. I've seen it drop from 8 to 5 within 30 minutes of an hour peak.

I usually have something like this when I'm out somewhere and am walking around. If I am walking around an hour after eating BG barely moves and on occasions after something high in carbs I've seen it drop down to the 3s or low 4s.

Pretty much ditto @harbottle with the exception of large chunks of bread....1 slice wholemeal fine but white is a no-no despite there being no difference carb-wise between white and brown! I do keep these things for treats, not every day. Last week I went for a carvery with a friend and indulged in 2 roast taters but no Yorkshire pud and I didn't go over 7.

I just find the ‘ceiling’ of 8 a bit odd. When I used sensors while on holiday in Italy last year, I saw the same thing - I had a cannelloni and it just went up to around 8, flatlined for a bit and then came down quite rapidly. Same with pizza. I expected, as a T2, to see it go far higher the more carbs I have - given my original hba1c of 83! I was worried when I had the the sausage roll without looking at nutrition as I expected to see sky high figures! If I’d know it was so high in carbs I wouldn’t have touched it!

Irregular treat, but, to be honest, I don’t really miss that stuff anymore. I found the diet of vegetables/fruit/fish/chicken fine.

Still pretty new to this so once a carb has given me a BG spike I haven't eaten it again. Wholemeal Cous Cous & pasta (same thing I guess) spring to mind.

I am fairly new to this testing, but I was quite shocked last week when I had a sandwich ( 2 slices of Lidl low G.I bread with salami) and my BG went from 5.8 to 14. This has been my highest reading, I have had wholemeal toast or sourdough bread with eggs or cheese and my readings have not gone over 8.5 after 2 hours. I am eating a lot less bread these days, but it seems different types have quite different results.

When I ate a couple of ham salad wraps my BG level after 2 hours was 15. With 2 Warburtons white large baps and cheese, it was 7.0 two hours later. Some chicken in black bean sauce and rice after two hours was 7.2. Two burgers with new potatoes after 2 hours were just 7.5. I seem to tolerate carbs quite well.

You're on three medications, I seem to recall. They will be helping as well.

I'll give the Warbutons baps a try - If they dont work for me then so be it but I so miss a ham salad sandwich that I'll try it once to see.
Things I've tried that have proved a no no:- 2 slices vogel's soya and linseed bread toast bg went 9.2
Wholegrain spelt spaghetti - same

If you want pasta try edamame bean or black bean as it is much lower carb than the wheat based pastas.
Whether your bread was OK or not depends on what your bg was before you ate it, it would have needed to be below 6 for it not to be OK
