Hi Everyone.

My name is Allana im 29 and have had type 1 20 years. I had a baby girl last July and I am now trying tolower my HBA1C, so we can try for another baby.

My last hba1c was 6.7 and ideally my team want it 6.5 or below. Im finding it very hard to keep levels low without going hypo. Then having to deal with high rebound sugars after a hypo. Do you correct reboud hi sugars with insulin?

Does anyone have any advice or tips from experience? It seems much more tricky this time round. Im thing thats because Im a busy mum now!

Any help would be great

xx

Hi Allana, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have a look through our pregnancy section, there are a lot of experiences similar to yours, plus the stories from ladies who have successfully had lovely babies (or are currently expecting!)

Try this one for starters:

Hi Allana and a warm welcome to the forum x

Hi Allana,

Welcome to the forum. I've been on a pump for both my pregnancies but my team were happy to let us TTC with an HbA1c of 7% or below. I think the pump does make it easier, but it's still hard work! If you're on MDI then you've done really well to get it to 6.7% I think.

Do you inject 20 mins before a meal by the way? I got horrible post-meal spikes till someone here said that even with Novorapid (allegedly OK to take WITH your meal rather than before...) is better given 20 mins in advance. It could be worth a try if you're not already doing it.

Good luck!

Hi Allana, welcome to the forum and congratulaions on baby no.1!! 🙂

Hi Allana

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Saw some good suggestions in your 'pregnancy' thread, but wanted to ask if you have ever done much in the way of post-meal testing? Watching what happens 1 and 2 hours after meals can help you understand the way your body reacts to food and uses the insulin. If you can squash any regular spikes you spot, it will help your A1c

Look forward to reading some of your thoughts and approaches on various things

M

Hi Allana, welcome to the forum! 🙂 x

Hi Allana and warmest welcome to the forum 🙂

I wish I could get an HbA1c <7!! As posted previously, I think you've done amazingly well achieving that on MDI!
Having never been pregnant myself (it's a gender thing, you know), I'll leave it to thers to offer advice on that score.
Not only is this site a great source of links to useful info, but members are able to share experiences which may offer suggestions as how you can help yourself - I know this has worked for me recently.

Big hugs to baby #1 - having children unlocks places in your emotions you never realised existed :D

Thanks so much for this Cate, no one has every mentioned this to me, so will try it b4 lunch! I have always been told novorapid works straight away!

Thanks again x
