Not so long ago an airline pilot in America lost his job due diabetes. He was later allowed to fly light aircraft. I doubt such will be allowed in Britain for a long time.

The rules were changed a while back and I believe but not 100% certain people on insulin can now have a pilots licence. Cargo and light air craft but not airline as far as I can recall.
 
I ‘know’ a T1 pilot via Twitter. 🙂
