Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello there, my name is Lee, and I have type 1 diabetes. Was diagnosed about two and a half weeks ago, and ever since I'm adamant to find people who have diabetes so I have new people to talk to.

I'm a freelance journalist too, and I'm hoping to create a news website on diabetes for my final year project at university. I want to hear from people who have diabetes and want them to share their stories with me, so if you're interested, drop me a private message. I won't put my email address/website link here (as I don't know the rules on advertising them on here) but I'm interested to talk to anyone who feels they have a great human interest story to tell.

Cheers, and I look forward to being here and hearing from you all!

Hi Lee! Welcome to the forum. I hope you get some good stories for your website, it sounds like a good idea. You are very positive for someone so newly diagnosed, well done! How are you getting on so far? What insulins are you taking? Hopefully you can share your story with us too. Feell free to ask questions too, we are a friendly group and I have got so much out of posting on here.

Hi Natalie, thanks for the message. Yes, hopefully I generate a big response, I want to hear from people like yourself, so maybe you could help me out? I'm not sure if I can put this link here (I will remove it if the forums authors have objections) but I have a list of people I need for the news site: CLICK HERE. Happy to hear from anyone so feel free to drop me a message!

I'm getting on alright with it really, trying not to let it control me and I'm just thinking that my life could be a lot worse- at least with diabetes it can be controlled I guess! I inject, and take 12 units of Glargine every 24 hours and Novorapid through the day before meals, currently on 1 unit of Novorapid per 20g of carbs in my meals. Can be quite confusing but my blood sugars have been near-normal lately, so I'm glad to see it's working 🙂

Hi Lee and a warm welcome to the forum.Good luck in your venture

Hi Lee. Welcome 🙂

You seem to be approaching it in the right way. Well done 🙂

Did they give you plenty of tuition about carb counting and adjusting your doses ?

Hi Lee, welcome to the forum 🙂 I removed your email as people can contact you via your site. It might be an idea to put your website into your signature so people can see it each time you post 🙂

You sound as though you have made a very positive start to your life with diabetes. The stories people have to offer are as diverse as people themselves, so I am sure you will have lots to draw on in the months and years to come.

Welcome to the forum Lee! 🙂

Thank you! Is it okay if I contact people through here too, asking people to share their stories with me through private messages? I don't want to come across as a spammer so I thought I would ask first, just a forum like this is extremely useful- I've been reading through some posts and some people have had it so much worse than myself, makes you realise doesn't it.

I think it's better if people get to know you a bit better first, so why not join in on a few of the discussions that take your interest for a while? 🙂

Brilliant, shall do! Thank you for your help!

As they said in THAT film...

"Build it and they shall come"

(field of dreams in case you're still wondering)

I think as long as members know you want their stories and can see how to get in touch with you, then you'll get a steady trickle. One thing we're not shy about is sharing our experiences :D

(ok. He built a baseball pitch in the middle of a corn field and all these legendary, dead, players turned up for the ultimate game. Or something)🙄
