I used to be a really fussy eater , since marrying my husband he has got me to try lots of new foods and I’ve become far more adventurous and healthier. If I try something and don’t like it I move on don’t eat it again
When my children were small the house rule was 'don't say you don't like something without trying it first'. If they did and didn't like it that was fine, I didn't give it to them again. They both ended up liking things that most children reject out of hand and have turned into brilliant cooks.

It’s amazing what you discover when you do try things

I'm a fine one to talk because we're always saying "don't say you don't like it without trying it first" or "you've not even tried it" to the children at school - I'm a midday assistant

LOL - I remember those days, kids sitting there sulkily saying “I don’t like it!” just because they don’t like the look of it. Sometimes you can persuade them to try a mouthful or two but with some kids you’re wasting your breath, they’d rather sit there all afternoon staring at a cold plate of food than try a tiny taste just to get it over with!

At the moment because of covid we’re staying in the classrooms and the kitchen staff deliver the hot food in polystyrene tubs and the cold food in bags, and we give it out to the children at their desks. There’s a little girl in my class who hardly eats anything, they do get a choice of what to have but whatever she orders she usually just picks at it and some days if there wasn’t a biscuit for pudding she’d eat nothing at all. One day they had veggie sausage rolls and she just peeled all the pastry off and ate that on its own, didn’t touch the middle bit or any of the accompaniments at all. Another day she had chosen cheese sandwiches but wouldn’t touch them because she said she doesn’t like cheese. I give up!

I have found that even if you don't like something the first time you taste it, it is a good idea not to set your mind against it because your tastes change, so be open to trying something again and again, perhaps just a sample off someone else's plate.
I absolutely love olives now, but I thought they were gross the first time I tried them. Same with Blue cheese. For many years I was absolutely repelled even by the smell of it but now I am pretty close to being addicted to the stuff! I bought 5 different ones last time I went shopping and 2.5 are gone already! I am still struggling with fish.... I am happy to eat it if it is plain and someone else has cooked it but I really struggle to handle and cook it myself and that means that I find it hard to motivate myself. I buy it because I know it is good for me but it is such an ordeal to psych myself up to cook it. The times I have been in the right frame of mind to overcome that, I enjoy it, but it doesn't seem to help the next time I come to cook it. Goats cheese is my other nemesis. I keep trying it because other people rave about it but each time I sample it, I initially think "Yes, it's OK...." but then that horrid after taste kicks in and reminds me of the goat's milk I used to have to drink as a child for my eczema and I just can't get past that.... yet... but I am still open to trying it!

Agree totally about the goats cheese, it smells just like goats. Occasionally we have bought Feta which is made from mixed milk, by mistake. The first time I had avocado, it just seemed like a greasy banana but I think it was just under ripe but now I love them.

Not only one, cant stand goats cheese yet like most cheeses, tried it few times from different outlets but nah, blue cheese all day long.
