We are recruiting healthy adult volunteers to participate in a new study that
can potentially lead to new treatments for diabetes.
In the study we are infusing the natural hormone alpha-melanocyte
stimulatory hormone (alpha-MSH) to find out if it causes a reduction in blood
sugar levels. The hormone infusion is safe, with only flushing of the face
reported by some people.
Eligible participants will attend two 4-hour visits at
the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial
College London (Hammersmith Hospital) where they will undergo detailed
testing of their metabolism. The study is led by Dr Alex Miras, Consultant
Endocrinologist. The study has been approved by the London-Fulham
Research Ethics Committee.
Participants will be recompensed for their time and travel with £100.
