Is there anyone who has chinese, indian or fast food and if so what do you usually choose off the menu?

My daughter is not a big fan of any of those but has been known to have chicken foo yung which is quite easy to manage diabetes-wise because it’s mostly egg, meat and veg, none of which have any carbs. You don’t have to have the rice. She likes prawn crackers too which are mostly full of air and not many carbs each. She likes pizza too but that can be very tricky to manage because it’s very fatty, so the carbs don’t hit you until much later on. On a pump it can be managed but on injections you’d probably have to split the dose and have half up front and half an hour or two later (how much later would be a matter of trial and error and would probably depend on what type of pizza, where you got it from etc etc etc)

I like Indian and Chinese. I have whatever I fancy but with Chinese I mainly avoid very sweet sauces. I have rice too, but not the whole foil carton. I measure out a moderate portion.

I have Char sui or duck with ginger and spring onions and a portion of Chinese stir fried veg and a couple of dessert spoons of rice just to soak up the juice and I usually bolus 2 units for that or 3 if I have prawn crackers with it.

From the Indian takeaway, I sometimes share an onion bhaji with my partner and then he will get Malayan chicken or Korma and I will have a cauliflower or vegetable bhaji (curried cauliflower rather than a deep fried ball like the onion bhaji). I usually have a spoonful of his main dish with my veg and again 2 dessert spoons of rice. That is also about 3 units of insulin for me.

Tonight I shared fish and chips with him. I have the tail end of the fish with about 10-15 chips and that again will be about 3 units of insulin for me.

Hello dear
where do you get your pizza from and is there any restrictions on the pizza ?

We usually buy Tesco’s, they are probably a little easier to deal with than takeaway ones. Making your own is even better if you can because you can control what goes into them. I don’t know what you mean by restrictions, do you mean how much can be eaten? In theory a type 1 on insulin can eat anything they like as long as they give the correct amount of insulin to cover it. Pizza is one of the most difficult foods to cope with though so the more you eat the harder it is to deal with afterwards. We are on a pump so can tell it to feed extra insulin in for a few hours afterwards, with injections it would be a bit trickier and you’d probably have to keep a close eye on blood sugars and do correction doses if necessary, either way it takes a lot of trial and error to find what works!

Chinese swap between chicken curry with rice/chips or pork chow mein. Indian like chicken korma & garlic rice or chicken tikka saag with same rice, starter is onion bhaji.
