I'm self-isolating with my wife and 3 yr-old because I've assumed having both asthma AND type-1 diabetes makes me super high-risk if I get Covid-19. However, the emotional/developmental price is high for my daughter, as she's not seeing any friends or family. If I could be more certain of the extent of the risk to myself, I might move to social distancing, but I don't want my daughter to be orphaned. Any thoughts? You can't really do social distancing with a 3-yr old anyway - it would be all hugs and close-ups!

I herd the Deputy Medical Officer being asked about play dates for children, and children going out. I did not hear all of what she said, but basically she said yes go to the park or bike ride but social distance.
If you are classed as being more at risk because of having 2 condtions, you will be contacted about it.

I have type 1, MS, Addison's under active thyroid and Coeliac. As I live alone and have dog who enjoys her walkies then walks she will have. We met up with friends this morning all keeping our distance and all twelve dogs had a fantastic run and play together for an hour. Four owners and twelve dogs sure was a sight to see and all impeccably behaved I might add.

I also have asthma and T1. I heard on the BBC yesterday that families can go out to the park etc., but to stay as a family group and distance from others, which I do imagine will be very difficult with a small child, if she can't play with children from other families :( Until we know the risk of the virus spreading between children and then being transmitted on to adults with new tests I think the best thing would be to try and keep separate for now, and hope it's jst a short time before they know enough to issue new advice.

There were quite a few families taking that approach when I was out with the dog yesterday.

My daughter has type 1 and asthma, all her diabetes doctors have said that because she's well controlled she's at no greater risk than anyone else. So we're not going to self isolate unless any of us develops any suspicious symptoms or unless we get a letter from a doctor telling us to do so. Now schools are closed we won't be going out so much anyway, and some common sense regarding social distancing is easy enough, but we’re not doing a full lockdown unless we absolutely have to. I'd be climbing the walls if I couldn’t go out for 12 weeks!

I suggest you go and look at Asthma UK website , they have this afternoon, updated and given more information. Including a list of drugs that if you take puts you I n a greater risk group.
