hi my name is Rachel i'm 24 and have been diabetic for 22 years. its been a struggle and still is now, thought about coming on something like this to talk about my difficulties to anyone who has as well. 🙂

Hi Rachel, welcome to the forum 🙂 What insulin regime are you on? There are lots of people here that can relate to you, who have also been diagnosed since they were very wrong, so let us know how we can help you 🙂

So it isn't just me who thinks one word but types another, similar one. 😱 😉

Anyway, welcome Rachel ? this is a very friendly and supportive forum. 🙂

Hi Rachel

Can I ask - have you been on a Carb Counting course? eg DAFNE or BERTIE or similar? I only ask because I'm not sure what happens when you transition from the 'kids' clinic' to the 'adult' one - and I'm not sure whether they actually remember that of course, when you are little, they explain it all to the parents instead of the diabetic - and parents might not be able to explain it all in such as clear manner.

I was diagnosed when I was about your age, so it was always said direct to me - but there have been so many changes for the better over the years (treatment wise) that I learned a LOT when I was offered a course after having D for 35 years! (although I could carb count and thought it might be boring and just the same old stuff) but it wasn't. Plus a great group of people round the table - we had a laugh! Every one of us had forged our blood sugar diaries at some time in the past and that certainly wasn't the worst thing anyone had ever done .....

It helped me adjust doses for food and calculate corrections properly with confidence - and I've done one heck of a lot better since then. Physically and mentally.

And of course talking to other diabetics on here and elsewhere - it's so much easier when people 'get it'.

So fire away with ANYTHING you want to ask - someone will know !

Hi Rachel
