A MUM?S birthday nearly ended in tragedy when she collapsed at a music concert.

Insulin dependent diabetic Rachel Armstrong almost died once before, while pregnant with her daughter Maisie, when she suffered a potentially fatal ?hypo? or hypoglycaemia attack caused when her blood sugar falls too low.

And when she slumped to the floor before the start of the Example concert at Newcastle?s Metro Radio Arena on Saturday night, it was only because husband Edward was on hand to explain her condition that she believes she is still here with her family today. Now, with the support of her mum Patricia Usher, she is speaking out about her condition to improve awareness of how serious an illness diabetes is and help people recognise symptoms that could help save a life.

?People just thought I was drunk,? said Rachel, who was celebrating her 27th birthday on the night she collapsed.
