Two insulin doses for one meal?

Hi all.
As I'm needing more insulin for my meals I've found it difficult to balance my numbers. I find that I don't give myself enough insulin and then when it starts to go higher I over correct and it goes on and on through the day and I'm almost always going up and needing corrections in the night even though I have my dinner at around 7pm. My goal every morning these days is to try and find some balance. I've found some advice on dividing what I think I need for the meal into two doses and taking some before the meal and the next maybe and hour after the first . Has anyone done this. How else could I get a grip on these numbers.

I'm learning.what my new ratio is and for some reason even when I'm doubling the insulin I used to take, it almost is always not enough. Thanks in advance ☺️

What time did you eat your meals on that graph? Without corrections (a second dose of insulin) would you be back in range by your next meal? I’m wondering if you’re correcting too early, then plunging down (because you didn’t need the correction)?

I have used this technique. But I don’t think I would use it in the situation you are describing.

Splitting the dose for me, is a way of slowing down the action of the insulin, and spreading it over a longer period.

So if I have a larger meal which absorbs over a longer time, taking all the insulin ‘up front’ can mean that I go hypo during eating (or soon afterwards) because the insulin acts too fast… then later overnight as the large meal continues to digest over an extended period, my levels rise and rise overnight.

Slowing down the insulin by splitting the dose has been successful in spreading the action later to help deal with the late rise from the slowly-digesting carbs.
