When I inject and im turning the dial it really hurts sometimes i shout out ouch, am i doing something wrong, i still feel like im tensing up despite being on injections for 11 months..

Not sure why you turn the dial when its in your skin Steffie, do you not dial up beforehand?

i do but i turn the dial to 1.8 and as its inside my tummy and turn the dial so the victoza comes out

Not quite sure of the Victoza delivery device Steffi

Most insulin pens allow you to 'airshot' a minidose to prime the pen, then dial up the full dose (before inserting the needle) then push the plunger/spring-loaded button/whatever once you've pushed the needle in.

A 'turning' action for delivery sounds a bit icky :( Are there other Victoza compatible 'pens'?

yeah i start by airshot and priming the pen ,abit comes out the end so i can see its ok and check for bubbles, then i turn the pen around to my 1.8mg..Id have to ask about other compatible pens Mike but it could be a road i need to go down cause it hurts 🙄

Hi Steffie

Just looked up a pdf online (looked a bit US, so not sure if your pen is the same) It seemed to suggest that the 'plunger' would work in a similar way to an insulin pen. Dialling the dose with a 'twist', but delivering with a straight 'push' (there might be a rotating disc in the button on the end which allows you to push for delivery without having to turn it?

Press down on the center of the dose button to inject until 0 mg lines up with the pointer.
...
Keep your thumb on the injection button until you remove the needle from your skin.

'Keep your thumb on the end' suggests a push not a twist.

Maybe there are other Victoza users around who could offer more hands-on experience?

You have to scroll down a bit to see the pictures 🙂

I wonder if it's like Lantus in being acidic. As it gets into the body, it changes its pH and becomes effective. I've never had problems with lantus but apparently it can sting as it goes in. Maybe voctoza has similar properties.

Rob

Hmm yes thats the one Rob,if i was to push the button nothing would happen

Thanks Mike so seems i may be doing it wrongly, not sure if theres any users i know vicsetter uses it but dont see them on alot, i can only think my DSN can help then...

It may be different mechanism Steff. Pity you can't get a video of it in use. The lantus pen has a slide plunger on the side which was always awkward.

Hope you can find out, in case there's something wrong with the pen.

Rob

I can't find any instructions on using the UK pens (or any info that they are either the same or different)

Sounds like you should go back to your DSN, the Patient information Leaflet says they should have shown you how to use it.

Alans reply came with a video and showed me where ive been going wrong, ive been twisting the dial as its been in my tummy and not pushing the dose button at the top of then pen 😱 How stupid am i,scary !

If you haven't been shown properly, then they shouldn't expect you to just know !! 😱

Have you been getting your dose the way you were doing it ?
