hi guys after a few meetings and a visit and 2 letters from my GP we have had a letter where the consultant did not accepted Graham because is not in the Brighton community so this sort of arrangement is not satisfactory for him because the major part of care is in the community (school nurses) i did not really have any help from the community care here a part from a few mums not from the nurse or dietitian(we dont have one ) the dietitian in brighton was fantastic she really helped us out WHAT ARE WE DOING NOW I AM REALLY ANGRY!!!!😡

I'm sorry to hear that Daniela :( Seems the consultant doesn't live in the real world if he's using an artificial excuse like that.

I'm sorry to hear the news. All I can think of is two things Daniela.

1st is you (and Graham) have a right to be treated where you want to be treated. I can think of is Adrienne. I think her daughter gets seen at the clinic in London even though she lives in Sussex.

2nd is to get in touch with PALS. Patient Advice and Liaison Service. They should be the best place for advice.

Good luck.

i already use PALS for a complaint at the conquest i dont think it is very good service anyway and i will be in touch with other mums i think Adrienne is on holiday now and she goes to london anyway not Brighton

In the 'patients charter' of 2009 it clearly states that everyone is entitled to ask for a referral to another hospital if they so wish. Nobody can refuse you this - it is your right and it doesnt come down to funding or anything else. If they say no - quote the 'patient choice' charter at them and tell them you will go to your MP if they dont allow you to choose. Adrienne goes to London and she doesnt live there so she isnt one of the community. You can do this and dont let them tell you no.🙂Bev

Daniella I can understand your anger. Is your GP supportive of the idea of going to Brighton. If so you could approach them and they may call the hospital on your behalf. This might be a bit hit and miss I think there are some GPs who would fight your case and others that don't.

They at least should be able to give you some advice on challenging the decision.

Hope you get some joy

I think Daniela said her GP had already written twice :(

I hope you get things sorted. It can't be much fun for you. Sometimes we have to fight for what we know to be right.

Yes - I saw that but I read it as the letters being sent before the consultants rejection. Sometimes when hospitals reject referrals GPs will actually ring up and plead the case. So I was thinking that if Daniela let the GP know he/she might do something.

There was a case in my local surgery where someone was sent to hospital, they were discharged the same day. They were spotted the next day by the GP who played merry hell with the hospital. The patient went back - and needed surgery.

Ah! I see, sorry Margie 😱 Worth a try then!

Anything is worth a try, you don't ask you don't get.

The phrase I was looking for earlier was anything worth having is worth fighting for.

anything's always worth a try, just keep asking and pestering - I mean really pestering till you get all the helps you both deserved, Good luck and we are all behind you 🙂

thankyou all for your support my GP is really supporting me i already have an app for thursday and i will mention this patient chart thanks everybody

Hi, if in doubt complain to your PCT (Primary Care Trust) or Stratedgic Health Authority. Folks are right, you should be given a choice about where you wish to be seen.

Adrienne's daughter has probably been refered to her London clinc (GOSH i think) by a consultant local to her. That's the way it works at the moment (supposidly, although it seems to have broken down in your case), your GP refers you to a specialist consultant at your local hospital, and if that specialist thinks you need further help or treatment or his field of expertise dosen't quite cover it, he or she can refer you to a specialist hospital, in what we call tertiary care. At the moment, it's all gonna change they say and then your GP will be able to refer you to whomever he pleases.

There you go, that's this week's ;esson about the structure of the NHS for you ;-)
