WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to wipe out Obamacare, arguing that the individual mandate is unconstitutional and that the rest of the law must be struck down with it.

The late-night brief, filed Thursday in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, carries major implications for the presidential election. If the justices agree, it would cost an estimated 20 million Americans their insurance coverage and nullify protections for pre-existing conditions.

The Trump administration's brief comes as the U.S. has recorded more than 120,000 deaths from COVID-19, with nearly 2.5 million confirmed cases. On Wednesday, the nation hit a new record for the highest daily total of new infections reported with more than 45,500.

For the roughly 25 million people out of work and collecting jobless benefits, the ACA's marketplaces and Medicaid expansion provide avenues to gain subsidized health insurance with consumer protections.

Complete madness, as if things weren't bad enough already :( Trump's only driving force is to wipe out any legacy from the Obama administration, no matter how damaging it is to the American population :(

" The brief includes a section pointedly arguing that the Affordable Care Act's pre-existing condition rules must be overturned as well. Those rules forbid insurers from turning away customers or charging them more on the basis of factors like age, gender and health status. The position contradicts Trump's insistence that he will protect people with pre-existing conditions."

That means everyone with diabetes :(

Never forgotten a tiddly bit of news footage when Obama was president and he and Michelle were invited privately to wherever by HM and PP, posed for photos on the steps outside the stately pile, then all turned to re-enter the house, Q and Michelle in front chatting, O & PP deep in conversation at the rear, as they go up the last step in front of the door, Michelle's left arm hovered protectively behind HM's upper back kind of encircling her at a distance.

Not a single nasty comment did I ever see had been made. Simply a demonstration of a really caring individual who damn well knew how to behave properly, however public or not it might be. That sums up nicely how I have always felt about her husband too.

Can't say I've ever had such diametrically opposed feeling about two different leaders of another country before or since - unless it happens to be Rumania of course ! LOL

Crikey! 😱 You may be aware of my background of living about half of my life, so far, through “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland that has always made me rather uneasy when I see forum members ridiculing Trump: not that I can’t, or don’t, see how stupid he can be; it’s the people behind Trump, that voted him into power that‘s NOT to be underestimated & it was exacerbated by armed violence in NI, during “The Troubles”, that always makes me aware of that! So, I don’t like to ridicule Trump because that means underestimating him & the people behind him that he represents! But, off all the things to DO!😱 Does he NOT realise he’s really shot himself in the foot with this: that’s 25 million people that WON’T be voting for him! AND it’s such a mean, small minded, petty thing to do!:(
