Hi struggling to get my diabetes under control and recently visited diabetes practice nurse and I asked about Trulicity and was told that I would require a referral to a diabetes specialist to get this, as they couldn't prescribe it and that my HBA1C was not high enough to warrant a referral. Is this correct ie do I need a specialist referral or can the GP surgery prescribe? Thanks.

Hi
I was on this and never had to go through seeing anyone but my GP who prescribed me this

You’re best to look up the guidelines for your area, there are usually a set treatment pathway, with criteria to stay on the more expensive medications such as reduction in a1c.

What medication do you take now and what is your a1c?

My GP prescribed this to me too. I have been referred to a specialist for diabetes ever.

Sorry to hear you’ve hit a bit of a brick wall @KCB (welcome to the forum!)

It might be worth calling the Diabetes UK helpline when it reopens next week to see if they are aware of this sort of restriction. You can call Mon-Fri 9-6 on 0345 123 2399.
