I've been pondering for days on posting and asking questions and I've come to the conclusion I'm a stupid bottom and I should get on, get over it and ask away.

Before I start I want to say everyone who has ever responded to previous posts have been brilliant - you know me I'm not usually shy but

1. I think I have hit a big bubble of depression :( cant explain when it hit me or why (big sigh)
2. My bloody blood sugars are driving me crazy and I feel so ill it is unbelievable.

For the past week or so I have felt high as a kite and sick as a dog, when I have tested I have been higher than normal. So yesterday I thought I'm going to run an experiment and test 2 hrs after every meal etc

1. Wake up BS 5.7 OK but a little higher than normal for me
2. 2 hrs after breakfast 15.5 - what !! (branflakes and milk)
3. Before lunch 10.4 well I was 15.5 2 hrs after breakfast and didnt eat anything till lunch.
4. 2 hrs after lunch 14.1 wholemeal ham sandwich
5. When I got home from work 7.4 - again eaten nothing since lunch
6. 2 hrs after tea 7.8 - Home made turkey coq au van small jacket tatty and veg - 4 units Novorapid.
7. Bedtime 5.5 - increased levemir to 11 units (was 4.8 when I woke this morn and then 14.1 2 hrs after breakfast - cycle begins)

Booked telephone consultation with GP and spoken to him today to ask

a. Is this the contraceptive pill doing this to me ?
b. Something else

Response wont be contraceptive - could be D progressing or could have a virus. So plan of action now is back to wheetabix for breakfast and a couple of units of Novorapid after breakfast to see if this helps any.

This now means 3 injections a day 😱

I want to cry and make this all go away - don't know how much more of this I can take. I wouldn't mind if I wasn't very good with food or didn't exercise BUT (sigh sigh sigh)

Hi Di,

So sorry you are feeling so down <<hugs>>.
Could it be that you are feeling down because your levels are not as they normally are?
Maybe the extra injection might help you feel a little better?

I really hope you feel better soon🙂

Di - can you get hold of your DSN - it does sound like you need your insulin adjusting.

When your sugar levels are running high - they can make you feel grotty, which can make you feel down. Stress can make you feel down and you have had a lot of that recently. I don't know and this is a complete shot in the dark but is it possible that as you get closer to your adoption course you are feeling a sense of mourning about not being able to get pregnant? Sometimes we think we have dealt with stuff and then it comes and hits us in the face (so to speak).

Thanks ladies !!

I think deep down I have got big tissues that want to surface, but I'm holding them back - If I pop I know I wont stop.

This is my lull before the storm - house done and now playing the waiting game before the adoption process kicks in fully.

Gonna try the additional insulin and up my exercise - hopefully that will help  I hate feeling so ill and useless x

My thoughts are with you di, hope you feel better really soon. Take care. x

Hi Di, some (some) great numbers, but I feel that 5.5 before bed is a bit low, you may be going low during the night and compensating, do you not inject levemir in the morning normally?, it looks like isn't any insulin to cover your breakfast, although that leap of 10 after breakfast is big for bran flakes, weetabix may spike and recede quicker but still seems very high. I've recently given up breakfast altogether as it put me up all day long. But breakfast only puts me up about 2 points.
P.S. I was on 60 units am and 80 units pm.

did you test before lunch, had your am reading of 15.5 dropped to normal or was it still high when you had lunch?

P.P.S I should try coq au vin next time could have been the van that did it?😉

Hello Di, only just catching up with this. I'm sorry you're feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all just now. Please don't be too hard on yourself though. I know I only know a little about what's been going on in your life recently, but what with the house and the pending adoption, as well as loads of other stuff, there's no wonder you feel like you do.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm sure I'm not the only one who neglects themselves when there's a lot of stuff going on, or who tries to fool themselves that they're coping when they're not. Having said that I used to cope much better when I was younger and didn't have diabetes to deal with. I don't know much about insulin requirements but I do know that when my own levels run a bit high it affects my coping levels and my mood in general.

I hope you get it sorted and feel better about things soon. One thing I've advised others is to imagine it's a friend in the same situation you yourself are in and think what advise you would give. I bet the first thing you would do is commend them for coping so well with what they have been going through, and then make sensible suggestions like the ones you've already recieved here.

Take care and I hope you find yourself in a better place soon. XXXXX

Hi Di, I Hope you are feeling better. Things do seem to pile up for a while and then the bubble pops and they get better again. The DSN may be able to help adjust youer levels too.

Thanks Blythespirit I'll get sorted and I know it will take time - think I'm in serious need of some time out from everything. Levels still bad today, but the good thing is not as bad as yesterday !!

Still the same Caroline today, I'm sick of feeling sick  but 1 day at a time x

Hi Di sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time. I hope that life gets much better for you very soon

Sorry to hear that you are having problems.

Hope the bubble pops for you really soon and everything is good to you.

You need a bit of me time you have had a stressful few months.

Take care

Are things any better today Dizzy?

Hi Ladies latest update is still a cloudy with stormy weather ahead I think lol.

Last night I decided I was not going to continue taking the contraceptive pill and see if my levels return to 'normal' for me.

Last nights sugars were bad (same as night before)
Pre tea 11.6
2 hrs after 9.3 (5 units novo)
Bedtime 9.7 (11 units Levemir)

Woke with bs of 6.2 this morn (high for me ) so had 4 units novo )yesterday I had 2 units with breakfast and was 11.3 2 hrs after and 6 before lunch)

so today
Waking 6.2
2 hrs after 13.4 (4 units Novo)
3 hrs after 7.8
Before lunch 3.9 ( 😡 ) did not treat hypo just had chicken on brown seeded sandwich and apple (i usually have my apple mid morning)
2 hrs after lunch 12.9 no insulin

Just gonna keep monitoring and hope this nonsense stops!! If I dont see any improvement in a week I'll go back to GP x

It might be too early yet to decide if the pill is causing the rollercoaster Di, I imagine these things take a few days to work their way fully out of your system. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon 🙂

Its the only thing I can think of that has sent me haywire. When I had the IVF last July that did the same to me on an even bigger scale.

I've got the most cruel body in the world cant have little ones, yet suffer so much pain grrrrrrrrrrr

Got to try again without it & I know it is going to take a couple of week to get out of my system. If it does not improve I suspect there is something sinister lurking !! So here to hoping it is that god dam little pill lol x

Hi Di,

Sorry to hear you're struggling.

As has been said, try not to be too hard on yourself. The BG you posted today are still a bit high but they are an improvement - not spiking quite as high after your meals. Going in the right direction, anyway.

Faith was spot on with suggesting treating yourself as you'd treat a friend.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon & start to feel better.

Re the pill - not sure if you've already discussed this with your GP, but have you considered the mirena coil? I've heard lots of good things about it helping with heavy/painful periods.
