Trouble taking metformin

It might be worth an ask at your pharmacy, I remember a few years ago when I was using a Tesco pharmacy they occasionally when they couldn’t get Metformin from their regular supplier
they had the same 500 mg tablet but in comparison it was quite a big bullet type tablet
I remember back then they weren’t as comfortable to swallow as the small round ones
although they were still swallowable with water

these days I’m taking quite a few different tablets (for different ailments)
and can pretty much swallow with a small glass of water them all quite easily

The other thing i thought that might help you @rosie1 is, what strength are they
I was thinking another option is if you were to request double quantity of a smaller dose, hope you get a solution that will work for you

Unfortunately it isn't advisable to cut slow release tablets, the covering needs to be intact.

We aren’t sure whether @rosie1 is taking Slow Release or standard. If it’s the standard release type, then taking a big tablet in 2 halves might be an option?

Yes, slow release tablets have to be taken whole with the coating intact.

Yes, it's the coating that makes it slow release, so exposing uncoated surfaces by cutting will effectively make them closer to standard pills.
