Type 2
I was diagnosed withT2 about two months ago. I’m on a huge learning curve, with lots of help and support from members here. I would have been lost without you , as my healthcare team are not up to much!

I got myself a glucose monitor and am trying different foods. I love porridge and fortunately I have found that it doesn’t send my numbers up,at all, even the instant type. I’m around 6 when waking and much the same two hours after eating porridge.

This morning I tried Weetabix. Bad move! I felt shaky and a bit odd an hour later. My numbers had gone up to 9 and my blood pressure shot up too. I hadn’t realised bp would be affected. So the Weetabix are consigned to the bin! (Funny thing is, the birds won’t eat them either).

I am not into bacon or eggs for breakfast, so I think I’ll stick to the porridge. Not a huge meat eater and as I’m trying to lose weight, I don’t want too much cheese either. I’ve been having salads, or thins with cheese or tuna, but getting a bit bored. I don’t cook much either, so veggies aren’t much of a temptation.
Ive lost about ten pounds and determined to go back in three months with lower numbers and a weight loss.
Any comments are welcome

After my diagnosis I simply skipped breakfast altogether and replaced it with coffees with double cream.

By extending your overnight fast with a virtually zero carb beverage you help to rid the body of excess glucose (it gets burnt off for energy) . You also don't trigger insulin production so quickly start to repair your insulin responses and reduce insulin resistance.
That allied with an ultra low carb diet helped me to get into remission quickly before really losing much weight (that came later over the next couple of years).
