Type 2
Hello everyone. I am a newbie here but have been diagnosed as type 2 for a long time. Daily I take a 5mg Linagliptin and 24ml Tresiba top up. Recently I have been having a low carb diet but despite keeping my current dosage of Linagliptin and Tresiba, my blood sugar level reading is between 7 to 9 before my first meal of the day and even after 1 hour low impact exercise. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same before? Thank you.

Hi DC1948,

Welcome to the forum. Just popping in to say hi! I haven't had this experience but just wondered if you've spoken with your GP about this? It might be that your medication needs adjusting or isn't quite right for you anymore.

Worth checking in and letting them know what's going on in case there's anything your doctor can do to help.

Thank you Cherrelle. Yes having an appointment with the diabetic nurse on 9th.

Welcome to the forum @DC1948

Hopefully you will be able to chat things through with your nurse and develop a plan.

Have you made any BG checks when missing a meal entirely so that you can see how your meds balance with the level of glucose that your liver trickles out 24 hours a day? You would need to check frequently in case your blood glucose began to drop, but it might give you some clues as to how your meds are coping when you aren’t eating.

You may want to check with your nurse to see if they are happy with that as an idea, but ‘fasting checks’ are often used in T1 to check the dose of long-acting insulin.

I am assuming that those readings are a little higher than normal for you? If so, out of curiosity, does this rise in levels correspond to having had the Covid vaccine because many of us have had erratic BG levels (some peole high, others low) as a result of it and some for quite prolonged periods afterwards. For me my basal insulin needed to be gradually increased from 16units a day to 35 at one stage about 8 weeks after the first jab. Thankfully it is now decreasing slightly again. Just something else to consider as a possible cause. If you are not used to adjusting your own insulin doses, then do seek guidance from your nurse.

Hi Barbara. Interesting that you mentioned the vaccine because my reading became erratic after the second jab. The Diabetic Specialist Nurse then changed my insulin from Humalin to Tresiba. I then started the low carb diet hoping to get a much lower reading (under 7) but it seems it did not help because my reading has gone to 9 and 10. I am keeping a food, medication and exercise diary so that I can provide an accurate feedback to the Nurse when I see her on 9th June

Hope you get some helpful pointers when you see your nurse @DC1948
