I’ve always had a sweet tooth so being diagnosed Diabetic last week is devastating. Last week my bloods were in the late teens to twenty’s but are slowly coming down between 11 and 18.
Can anyone recommend anything sweet I can have to snack on , I miss something with a cup of tea . Are there any biscuits out there that aren’t too bad .

Sorry but it really is best if you can avoid sweet biscuits as they are all high in carbs.
One thing I sometimes have is a small savoury biscuit like a Melba toast, with some soft cream cheese on it.

The wider solution is to follow a diet plan that fills you up with good things at meal times so that you don't feel the need for snacks. Maybe a read of Maggie Davey's letter, would help give you some ideas of where to start on this.

Anyway, that's how it worked for me.
 
Another way of thinking about it is that you now have good reason to explore the world of the flavours that have been hidden by sugar whose sweetness has kept them hidden from you. I think a bit like Eddy and one or two others - once you stop eating sweet things, you will want them less and if you do accidentally eat something sweet, it will taste sickly and unpleasant.
 
I too had a sweet tooth when I was diagnosed. My tastes have changed, and where I used to happily eat a whole bag of sweets, I now treasure my single chocolate after our evening meal.

As others have said this is a wake up call, and time for some changes in order to bring down your glucose levels. Have a look around the forum for some ideas, and find out what works for you.

Same here. “Can I have sugar for my coffee?” I asked the lovely warm WRVS woman, while in hospital just after diagnosis. “No, dear, I’m afraid you can’t” she said - with such a look of sadness in her eyes.

Very soon I found sugar in hot drinks unbearably sweet. And while I still do enjoy a treat every so often (with the benefit of injected insulin) my tastes have certainly changed and commercially sweet products are usually too sweet for my taste now.

Hang in there @JueB - your tastebuds will adapt before you know it. 🙂
 
Although i still have one sugar in my tea i find the same as others, as you cut back on sugar you will want/crave it less.
 
Even dark chocolate these days. I have a couple of bars of 90% in the fridge which I hoarded during the March Panic Buy. I look at them every now & then and go, " Nah .. no interest."
 
I'd cut sugar in drinks out myself prior to diagnosis but still 'needed' half a tsp in tea. My sis arrived for afternoon visiting first day in hosp, and tea trolley arrived - I'd been bunged in a side ward cos the main ward was full, so trolley dolly (yeah, WRVS LOL) let sis have one too. Sis said she'd meant to nip into the newsagents opposite and get me some sweeteners, would I like her to nip across now and get me some?

I said No! - may as well start getting my head round it right now hadn't I? So I did. LOL
 
I had an Olympic standard sweet tooth pre diagnosis. In fact I was a sugar addict.
I cut down all the cakes, biscuits, sweets and added sugar straight away but I was still using dried fruit in my porridge for a few weeks until I realised that not just the dried fruit needed to go but the porridge too if I wanted single figure BG readings. After that, there was no sweet stuff for several week and during that time I suddenly realised how much flavour other things had. It was like I had been eating in black and white and now I ate in colour. Things that I used to think were sour, suddenly had an element of sweetness to them. My morning coffee is now served with double cream instead of sugar and it tastes heavenly and I almost consider it the highlight of my day having that treat.... I know I'm a sad woman

Unlike the others above, I know I could easily go back to drinking my coffee with 3 sugars and eating a multipack of snickers in one day (on a bad day) or a box of Cadbury's Cream Eggs. I don't kid myself about that, but I don't want it to happen because it is not healthy and there are lots of other things I treat myself with instead like a chunk of my favourite cheese or a packet of olives or some salami or a packet of pork scratchings or some nuts and everything tastes so much better for not eating all that sweet stuff. People can even eat it in front of me and offer me cake or chocolates and it doesn't even bother me to refuse, which I find pretty mind blowing, so I can definitely say that for me, once I stopped eating sweet stuff I stopped wanting it, but if I started eating it again, I could very easily fall off the wagon and it would take a lot more effort to climb back on than just not falling off if you know what I mean.
