Truly known as the diabetes capital of the world, India is the home land for more than 50 million diabetic individuals. According to a study presented at the National Diabetes Summit 2013 held in Amritsar, Punjab, India has the second highest number of individuals diagnosed with diabetes all over the world. The alarming pace at which diabetes is flourishing worldwide poses the greatest challenge to the healthcare industry. Although the pharmaceutical market is flooded with a wide array of drugs for the treatment and management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, a few limitations have led to the development of new and improved drugs.
