Type 1.5 LADA
Hi all,

In a couple of months I will be flying for the first time since being diagnosed with type 1 LADA, I am not injecting insulin as yet and still taking Gliclazide tablets.

I will be informing my travel insurance company as well but do I need to take a letter from my GP or copy of prescription? (I will only have my BG meter and tablets in my hand luggage).

Thanks for any advice!
Richard.

You are better safe than sorry. I asked my DSN for a letter which she did. Itpretty much listed everything I need or might need to carry on board and she did it for free. A lot of GP’s will charge.

Always pays to be prepared, but i have to say I’ve never been asked for any travel documentation or proof of prescriptions (including injectables like insulin). Airport staff are well-used to encountering people with diabetes, and thankfully unfortunate experiences are rare.

I seem to remember that GPs might charge for a letter, whereas a DSN may just be able to write one for you free of charge?

Enjoy your trip!
