Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hello
I am a newly diagnosed type 1.5 and I am getting ready to go away for my first overseas trip since being diagnosed a few months ago.
My question is this. What do people not, ally do with their sharps box when flying overseas? Do you pack it in your hold luggage? Do you take the one you are currently using or do you take a new/empty one with you?
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Many thanks
Roger

Welcome to the forum, Roger Bartlett.
Personally, I place stock of unused lancets and pen needles into film pots / medicine pots. Then gradually move from unusued to used container. Much less bulky than a sharps bin. Plus, such pots are easier to empty if you see a sharps bin available for public use eg in some airports, major railway stations etc. It's best to carry essential kit in hand luggage, in case hold luggage goes missing. Freezing temperature isn't a problem for lancets and needles, although it's important not to allow insulin, meter and strips to freeze. When returning, used needles and lancets can go in hold luggage, and be emptied into sharps bin at home.
Where are you travelling? Hope you have a great trip!
