Hello!

So I have decided to take the plunge & solo travel to Southeast Asia having diabetes eek! I’m going to go for 3 months and I’ll likely be on the move. I’m on the omnipod 5 & Dexcom 6 (might move to the freestyle liber 2+ sensor as it seems easier to travel with?)

A fee questions:

~ Does anyone have any recommendations for travel bags as I’m hoping to have the backpacking experience but worried about my supplies? I’m going to have to take 4 months worth of pods & sensors. Plus insulin and extra injections etc
~ I’m worried about losing my stuff & was wondering if anyone has any advice to be extra careful in hostels etc?
~ I have read that Asia has a rule that means I can only carry 1 months worth of insulin, is this correct? Any recommendations of anything else I need to have with me re documentation?

Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m super nervous but I don’t want my diabetes to come in the way of having fun!

Thanks!

I think as insulin can only be out of the fridge for a month and you’ll be on the move that you’d be best looking at how to buy insulin there anyway?

Ps. No one knows how much insulin you would get through in 1 month…so whatever the rules say it’s presumably you that has to tell them how much you need for a month

When I had to travel, I had loads of insulin in a cooler bag in which I'd put two blocks of ice. On the plane, for the long haul flight I asked the hostess to keep it for me in their bag. Wherever you go there should be a fridge and you can put your big supply jn there and only carry a vial with you when you're heading 5to different places. It's doable. Just be sure not to forget it in a fridge somewhere. Have a packing list each time you are changing location and highlight 'get insulin out of the fridge'.

Have fun on your trip.

Most of the advice here is not to trust hotel/hostel fridges and never let your insulin go out of your control. Ice packs can cause your insulin to freeze and damage it.

I completely agree.
I will not give my insulin to air crew or hotel staff. It will be out of my control. I won't know about the fridge, if anyone else will take it and need to remember to pick up up. Plus it is completely unnecessary.
