Hi everyone, i am soon to be doing a driving holiday through europe and obviously will be carrying my insulin etc and all the usual diabetic things we need to carry. Have any of you expierienced any problems getting across borders etc with our medication. I have been told by doctors etc to just carry my pescription? is this enough? I dont want to have any issues if i dont have the correct paperwork etc.

I did 6 weeks driving through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands and Belguim in 2019. The only border we actually were stopped at ( momentarily) was Italy/Switzerland as the latter isn’t part of the EU. We only showed our passports. Can’t imagine they’d be at all interested in legal meducation. I carried my prescription only in case of emergencies. Enjoy.
 
No one in Europe has ever asked me for medication documentation with many many trips.
I carry a letter from my doctor but in 18 years, I have been asked for it once.

Switzerland has been in Schengen since 2008. But in any case you don’t need any additional documentation to carry personal medication across the border though having a current prescription with you may be helpful in case you need to access emergency supplies. suggestion that you have an EHIC card in addition to travel insurance.
