Just a note of warning to those trying to get travel insurance. I have just been in contact with the one recommended by Diabetes UK. They will NOT cover anyone until their glucose levels are under control.
As I only started using insulin 3 weeks ago on the 2 injections a day regime I am still working with my GP and nurse to identify the correct levels for me. I started at 10units am/pm, then 8/12 split and now 8/13 split which after 3 days seems to give a lot better control. However as my annual insurance runs out next week and we go away first week December I was very surprised at the response.- which only happened at the end of a 10 minute phone call. Luckily they were paying.
Just as well my current company- LV had no problem in renewing my insurance with just a ?25 loading. Bearing in mind I have an underactive thyroid, take statins to control my cholesterol (currently under 4 but the question asked is "have you ever had a high reading" plus an artifical knee and am 67 and my husband 74 I was very pleased with this.

Thanks for the timely warning.

Hope you have a good holiday. Just in case you're not aware, make sure you have an in-date EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) if travelling in / through EU / EEA. Many insurance policies don't cover costs of lost medication, but it's better to take precautions about not losing it, eg splitting supplies between cases, carrying in hand luggage on day trips / leaving some in accommodation etc, than to worry about replacing.
