Training for team in diabetes check-up drive

DARTMOUTH Medical Practice has launched a new campaign to make sure all those with diabetes are regularly checked.

As part of the check-up drive, extra training has been given to all members of the medical practice clinical team, which means patients don't have to travel to Torbay for appointments when they are first placed on insulin.

Hummmmmm - I think this is good generally but am always in two minds about it. GP surgery staff on the whole just don't have the opportunity or time to keep fully abreast of all diabetes happenings. Even with the best will in the world.

Kind of, a little knowledge maybe, being a dangerous thing .......

At the back of my mind too, but I'm guessing that they mean starting Type 2s on basal insulins which is hopefully a bit simpler than basal/bolus carb counting etc. so doesn't need the same level of in depth knowledge.
