Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Diabetes is a disease that, if left unchecked, can be fatal, and Mandy Hobbs knows that better than most.

Hobbs has had type 1 diabetes for 26 years. In fact, she's had it so long she can no longer feel it when her blood sugar is not right, which is a dangerous situation. Now, she will be reliably warned if her blood sugar is too low or high by a new four-legged friend named Gadget.

Not long after they met, Gadget gave Hobbs the signal: a gentle pawing. Mandy checked her blood sugar,.

“Sixty-two. Good, little buddy,” Hobbs said, seeing her blood sugar was low.

Mandy and her new best friend are inseparable now. They have to be for this whole thing to work. Blood sugar drops can happen any time, and Mandy has had diabetes so long she rarely feels it when it happens.
