Anybody who is doing MDI & carb counting how do you work out your TDD (total daily dose) for sick days? Thankfully I'm not sick but it's just for if & when the occasion arrives
I just test a bit more frequently and adjust both insulins a bit as needed; simple. You can't really have any sick-day rules as it depends on how sick you are and what the illness is. I never did understand these 'rules'.
I was taught on the DAFNE course that to calculate your Total Daily Dose (TDD) you add up all of the insulin that you had the day before I.e. all Bolus and basal. However I found the DAFNE suggestion to correct x% every two hours was two much for me. BUT Gill as you've recently had DKA and are, in many ways, starting again I would follow the advice being given by your diabetes team. I therefore hope that my information about how to calculate TDD helps.
