Firstly - sorry I havnt been online too much recently, work and home life has been hectic!
I turn back to the diabetic community however in a time of a little need of support..
Tuesday hospital appt this week. Fantastic. Hypertension clinic.
HBA1C - 6% from 6.3% previously, Liver good, kidneys fine, protein in urine down to next to nothing, Cholesterol down to 4.6 from 4.9. Discharged Yay! ...
Wednesdays hospital appt... Eyes
Just to give you some quick background, Ive always had some background retinopathy since I was 18, so 10 years now. Small changes which have come and gone and stabalized and gone again and come back etc etc. Just a recheck eevry year, and occasionally an extra check at the hospital for good measure. (I spent my first 18 or so years as a naughty diabetic). The last year or so they have made the check ups more frequent and noticed more changes. 6 Months ago they took photos which worried them slightly however when investigated further they were happy that the changes wernt near the centre, and were not of a major concern and should be closely monitored. Therefore my checkup yesterday.
When I went yeserday, there was a LOT of ummming and arghing as he looked at the photos the scans and deep into my eyes. His impression was that things had progressed. Im going to try and repeat some of the words and phrases he came out with. (Its worth noting that the last 4 times ive had my eyes checked, whether it be via the opticians or hospitals have been via 4 different eye docs... Annoying.com.org.co.uk)
Suspected ischemia?
R2 Grade
Not requiring laser yet, However things are bubbling away
Not in the centre however round the edge
Im booked in for Flurescein angiography... Yellow dye pumped into my veins which will help document the vessel structure in my eyes better. Lovely. Thats in a month, and a further check in 4 months.
Obviously Im worried... I think Ive already accepted that I will need laser treatment at some point and I think that point is edging nearer. I was looking for a bit of advice of people who had been through the same stages as myself and who may have had laser.
Some questions..
How successful has laser treatment been for you?
How many times can you have laser?
How long ago did you have it and are things still alright?
How did it effect your vision?
Do you expect to have more problems further down the line?
When is it too late!?
Thanks for the support
