Sorry not been on for a while, but I have been quite ill. 20th I went to docs with ear, throat and gland in my neck. Got anyibotics, erithromycin 500mg four times daily. By friday my two lower back teeth were throbbing and my face was begining to swell. I phoned my dentist. The receptionist said dentist did not work fridays. How very helpful, not. So on saturday morning my husband took me to an emergency dentist. He froze my mouth, drilled the tooth out, told me I had a severe abbsess and then filled it in again. He said the antibiotics I already had for throat would be o.k By the time we got back home my face was double the size before dentist messed with it. I phoned nhs direct and they had another dentist phone me. He wanted me to go to his surgery straight away. I was sobbing with the pain. My mouth was now swollen and solid as a rock. The new dentist drilled tooth out again, with no anatheatic, it couldn't hurt more than before. He left tooth open to relieve pressure. He gave me metronidazole 400mg three times daily. He said to get in with my own dentist to re-fill, when ready. I phoned on Monday and receptionist said they had run out of money and could not treat me, but they be ok by the end of october. I think I am going to put a tempory filling in myself. I am so upset about this. What do you all think?

Wow, I am very sorry to hear about all the problems you are having :( What does your dentist mean by saying they have run out of money? Never heard that before. Why haven't the dentists you've seen so far treated you properly? It must feel dreadful, I'm so sorry. Do you have any friends who could recommend a dentist who could deal with it sooner? You can't wait another month if you have a severe abcess - is the hospital a possibility, perhaps your GP could refer you?

I hope you can get it sorted soon.

You need to be very careful with absess and diabetes one of the ways I knew one was coming on was me levels went mad. Also the antibiotics used to play havoc as well. Best be careful. I'd love to know BTW what they mean by run out of money so could not treat you..

Thanks for replies. My bg's have been quite a bit higher than usual. I am using tempory basal rates. Not doing to bad with it.

Possibly the absess infections send my bg's mad.

I found this on the SMILE website

"The NHS now asks dentists to provide a fixed, limited amount of NHS care each year and so they have to allocate their time and their NHS budget accordingly."

so its sounds like they are saying that they have used up all their NHS budget until October.

Do you have a dental hospital nearby? they may have a daily A&E that you could get to.

I hope you can find someone to treat you.

Wow what a horrid time. I hope you are feeling better and you find a full time dentist that can afford to treat you properly. An abcess in the mouth is bad at the best of times. I think you deserve a treat to cheer yourself up with and a lot of nice hugs.

Sounnds terribly painful Spirit,I know the pain I have with this loose tooth ive had for over 6 months thats small fry im sure compared to your pain, hope it can be rectified asap x take care
