i've just had a glucose tolerance test done , and within 2days the surgery is onto me to go back , i know what it means , but i dont want to go , bear in mind i'm gone 50 but i just dont want to hear those words ......

Hi nino, welcome to the forum 🙂 Try not to worry unduly (I know that's easier said than done). Do you know what the result of your test was? Do you have any of the classic symptoms - needing the loo, thirsty, tired etc.? If you are diagnosed then this is a good thing, as it means that you can get the help and support you need to regain your health. Diabetes doesn't have to be something that ruins your life, but you may have to make a few adjustments to your diet and lifestyle.

We are here if your fears are confirmed, so you will have plenty of support from people who know how you are feeling. Take care, and I hope the news is not as bad as you suspect.

Hi nino-007
My husband has just had such a scary moment. He was told he's borderline, but the next test showed he's actually OK, non diabetic. Waiting is the worst part, isn't it? :( Please remember it's not the end of the world if the doctor find you are diabetic. 🙂

Hi nino
I don't know what the glucose tolerance test is.....Have you done fasting glucose level check?(You have to fast for 12 hrs before this test) If so, what was the reading? Don't worry too much, I know it's difficult, but have a good rest tomorrow.🙂

Whatever the outcome, bear in mind that diabetes can be very well controlled these days with a host of different treatments available. Many people discover that, by having to think more carefully about their health and lifestyle, they actually become healthier than they otherwise might have been. I know this has been true of me - I was 49 when diagnosed and it certainly made me reassess a lot of the choices I had making up to that time.

Hi Nino i cant really add much to what has already been said, at least if you go to get the results then can act now if it is diabetes if you left it things wont improve for you, like somebody already said it is not the end of the world if you are diagnosed it just seems that way for a little while.x

Welcome to the forum nino.

My response is going to be a little trite! Apologies in advance!! 🙂

I think that you did yourself a favour by going on the fitness health route. Your diabetes is going to be so much easier to control not having to lose any excess weight.

Also, don't delay, get back to the docs now and get your diabetes sorted (if that is what the doc wants to see you about).

Andy 🙂

welcome nino and good luck ...let us know how you get on and we'll be here for any questions ...rants etc x🙂

Hi Nino and welcome.
As Andy HB has said, you have done yourself a favour with your "fitness health route" - at least it's postponed diagnosis (if that's what the surgery is going to tell you), plus diet and exercise are essential parts of managing any form of diabetes. Sure, you might need some medication (almost certainly tablets initially, and perhaps never any injections), but (as Steff says) it's not the end of the world, plus if you do need diabetes medication, you will get a free prescription card, so you won't have to pay for them.

Welcome Nino. I can only echo whats already been said.

Avoiding it won't make it go away. You obviously care about yourself to go on such a strict lifestyle choice. Going to the docs will probably show you just how fit and healthy you are. And that won't stop if the diagnosis is what you fear. It just means that you'll be discouraged from taking unhealthy choices in the future.

Look at some of the profiles on this forum and you'll find adults and children who are living normal, healthy lives with none of the complications you may hear tales of.
