Type 1
years. I have always had a small frame and (mostly) my BS is under control.
My problem is, I am losing weight (wish is making me look really ill). I'm fed up with people commenting on it. Is there any way a type 1 can gain some weight,

The tools for gaining weight with Type 1 would be the same as the tools without diabetes.
However, I recommend talking to your GP if you are losing weight without trying - there may be an undiagnosed reason to be treated.

Thank you for your reply. I will talk to my GP but I think it maybe my carb intake which is the problem. At the moment, I inject before breakfast and before dinner. Could a Bolus system, perhaps help (where I could inject more and therefore eat more) ? Thank you so much x

@DennyG - why on earth are you not already on a proper basal/bolus system as you are Type 1 ? - it is the bog standard treatment for us !

If you are on fixed dose insulin, it can limit what (and when you eat). It is unusual not to be on a basal/bolus regime which provides much more flexibility.
Your insulin doses should match what you eat rather than having to eat to match your insulin ... which may not be enough for you.

Hi @DennyG
It is unusual now for people to be in the mixed insulin regime, which means that you need to eat to match the insulin. The Basal/Bolus regime is a lot more flexible and enables you to eat what you want when you want. I think that this would make a lot of difference for you.

If you’re having to limit your carbs, it could be that. I was on twice daily insulin for a while but my doses reflected what I wanted/needed to eat so I didn’t lose weight. Are you injecting mixed insulin or two separate insulins?

Hope you can switch to a more flexible system @DennyG

Your GP may want to refer you to a hospital clinic for more specialist support 🙂

Thank you everyone for your input.
I have full bloods taken from my G P, which came back fine, so it has got to be my insulin regime.
I have now made an appointment with the hospital to get this properly looked at. I am at present doing a food diary and I will then get (hopefully) a thorough overhaul.
I'll keep you all posted. Thank you all, once again x

Thank heaven for the hospital appointment - I sincerely hope it's not too long away?
