I take 2g metformin SR daily. 1 in morning and 1 with evening meal. I also take gliclizide and empiflugozin.
my diabetes has been managed exceptionally well over the past few months getting my Hb1AC down from 86 - 45. I have noticed after taking my nighttime metformin that I am having ”untimely” bowel movements. Thoughts on cutting this out? I don’t have the same effect in the morning.

If they are slow release you could just take both in the morning. I take both in the evening because if I take one in the morning it upsets my stomach

That’s interesting. After initially being okay on the SR ones the stomach pains were starting to creep back in along with unwanted bowel movements in the middle of the night. I thought about splitting the dose which my dietician said was not ideal but ok - something about it being better metabolised overnight so has greater impact? Any way then read a blog from someone who said that eating carbs when taking the med made it worse so I am trialling avoiding carbs completely in my evening meal which is when I take the tablets. So far it’s been better. Just hungry now (me and low carb don’t get on overly well)!

I think you just have to find when works for you. If it works better for you without carbs, making taking it later on after tea, before bed with a protein snack would work? I’m the complete opposite to you! Having it without carbs upsets my stomach, and I have to get a biscuit or some toast to settle it down. Having it with a carby dinner is perfect for me, funny how different it can be!
