So far in February I have had 26 hypos! I know the main reason for this - coming off the combined contraceptive pill - but it is so hard to just get on with things when I'm hypo more often than not. I am in touch with my DSN and we are working together to sort it but it is just so draining. This pill is one that was never recommended for diabetics (as I posted about in off the subject) and now I can see one reason why! I know my memory is being affected at the moment, can't think of words etc and today at work it has been a struggle and I printed the wrong document off for a meeting twice, third time lucky 🙂. I apologised and all was ok but can't explain why because they wouldn't understand.

Moan over! Thanks for listening! 🙂

How horrible for you :(

Has your DSN suggested you reduce basal?

In your shoes that would be my first (and second... and third...) thing to try.

yuk i dont like the sound of those side effects at all, agreed reduce the background insulin would be my first thing to try to, hope things get better soon for you

Thought my 18 was a lot. Still, I've been working with my DSN as well, and I'm much improved. ie some days I don't have one at all LOL - in fact I recently had 2 consecutive days without one.

I've reduced basal AND I have also had to reduce my carbs ratio, Or is it increase? - anyway I was 1u to 10g - am now 1u to 13g.

Personally I found that the scariest thing, reducing my boluses!

My DSN told me not to reduce basal but have done anyway by 2 units and she advised me to reduce my ratio from 2:10 to 1.5:10, this has made things a little better but am reducing down to 1:10 tomorrow to see how that goes as the hypos are still continuing. Swinging high and low though still. I know my injection sites for the levemir are not good though so trying other sites to help that out, hard to know where else to inject though.

Hi Newbs,
have you done a basal test? If not well worth starting a fresh. Make sure you have plenty of glucose handy though. 🙂 Once your basal is sorted then you can move on to meals. Don't forget though that most people have dif carb ratios through out the day.
